Fact Checking on flywheel stepping (m20 flywheel s52))

I took my flywheel to a local machine shop and they milled down the engine side but left 1 mil above the flywheel. They weighed it and it said 9.5lbs..seemed alot lighter than what I read it should come out too...perhaps their scale was incorrect (pic below) Did i do this correct?

Next I took it to a race shop to have it balanced and have it resurfaced and the race shop tech needed to know what to have the step machined too.

After reading I have come to the conclusion that it should be .011". Is this correct?

this is a junkyard flywheel, in the photo below you can see where I have not had it resurfaced, but someone has in the past and on the RH side there is no step and the resurfacing is not uniform and extends more than it does on the LH side.

Is this possibly due to a poor job done in the past or is my flywheel somehow not true.

Also I am looking to shakedown the motor n/a then go turbo with a 400hp goal. any clutch recommendations? Clutchmasters fx---?

Also I am aware i am missing one of the alignment pins. I need to source one.

After scouring forums and what websites I could find, I came to the conclusion that its. 010".. and I just drove my car tonight.. the clutch holds great.
I never weighed mine after having the front shaved off but they took off about the same as yours

I've heard about milling down the engine side of the flywheel, but this is the first I've heard about taking down the clutch side to 0.010" what's the point in removing so much material there?

there is a step up on the friction side of the flywheel. when you resurface it, you need to maintain the step up.
basically the pressure plate mounts to a surface thats .010" lower than the friction surface.

and as for the weight issue.... maybe the OPs machinist told him they took 9.5 pounds OFF the flywheel?

Judging the marerial taken off it probably weighs about 15 lbs. There is a lot more material that can be taken off. Take it flush with the ring gear then widen out the valley towards the outside. .010 to .011 is the proper step dimension. Make sure to check for uniform step with a straight edge. I actually had to have a shop redo their work because the step was not uniform.

Sorry for taking this thread in a completely new direction but can someone school me on a proven s52/gertag 260 shifter setup. My bushings are cashed, im aware that the rod needs bent..is there a cheap short throw out there or should i just throw new bushings in the stock e30 shifter and call it money saved.
