24v - Vibrant muffler = Me not happy

So I was asking about exhaust advice and didnt get much input. I ended up going with a vibrant street power; same one e30polak went with.

I am definitely not happy. I like the stock sound better that had a growl as I went up in RPM. I gues it is a preference thing, but I def do not like it. It is loud and raspy. Sounds like a Honda in my opinion from inside the car. My e36 has a Dinan exhaust which sounds MUCH better. It is quiet, stock sounding, but has a wonderful engine droning sound at higher RPMs. You cant really hear it much when you drive except for in tunnels and driving next to a wall. But that sound is much better than the Vibrant in my opinion.

What's the rest of the setup?

I'm curious as well. A set of ebay headers can add a bit of rasp.

You will need another muffler or resonator .

I'd add a vibrant ultra quiet resonator. it will lessen the rasp and drone significantly which should help bring out the lower tones you are missing.

              single pipe or dual?

may be part of the drone and problem if it is a big single. my car's PO had a single 3" that sounded like shit and could not be quieted at all... went dual 2" and it is nice and quiet...

E36's make some sound with the center section. What does the center look like?

sounds like you need a resonator.

                    That's yer problem right ther.

You need another muffler, preferably in the center. I've got ebay Supersprint headers (ceramic coated, knocked out the rasp), to a Borla ProXS, then back to a Vibrant StreetPower. 2.5" piping all the way from the headers to the back muffler. A resonator is going to do little more than change the overall tone of the exhaust.

If you have to have the cat where you are, have the car tested with it in place, then replace it with a center muffler.

With this setup, I have NO rasp, NO drone at any RPM, it's almost whisper-quiet at idle with just a little rumble, and sounds like I mean fucking business when I stand on it.

resonator = honda noise, or rather, lack of.

                      moar resonator, less honduh
As mentioned, you can use a secondary muffler for resonance removal.

looks like you want a muffler with chambers instead of flow through packing but I would recommend adding a resonator

Any resonator or center muffler suggestions? It would have been nice to know this before hand. Borla might be too pricey - Anything more economical; maybe magnaflow?
