    flywheel/clutch/plate for S50 in e30

    Hey

I've tried searching but could not really find answer to my question, thus this thread

I am doing S50 in e30 and was planning to use a E36 (or E36M3) transmission.
But i really want to stay away from 26# flywheel and don't feel like splurging for an aluminum one. (BTW, are there any good deals currently? and what are the ones that don't rattle/chatter? does Turner one rattle/chatter?)

People mentioned on this forum that shaved flywheel/clutch/plate for a e30 will work inside the e36 tranny, my question is "what are the disadvantages of this setup?" I am sure there are performance clutch kits for a e30 out there - so what are the minuses?

    Thanks
    Alex

UUC makes an 8.5lb flywheel for the e36 M3 tranny. When used with a 3.6l e34 M5 clutch (which is a double sprung hub), there is almsot no chatter at all. I have the UUC Stage 2 flywheel, and a Spec Stage 3 clutch, and it has some clatter to it. $975 for the 8.5lb flywheel and M5 clutch.

Not certain about the e30 flywheel/clutch in an e36 tranny thing. Call up Turner and ask about their clutches/flywheels.

But whatever you do, I highly advise you to get the lighweight flywheel. The car just spools up so fast with one. It is pretty night and day.

i have a bimmerworld JBRacing flywheel and E34 M5 clutch. Isn't installed yet, but I'll let you know in another month or so what it's like, although I know it's going to be nice and quiet.

Flywheel chatter really isn't so bad IMHO. I have a very light flywheel on s14 and it makes all kind of noise, but with that loud ass motor and exhaust the flywheel is the last thing I hear. Especially with the radio on.

Thanks for info guys, keep it coming..

I'd like to use e34 m5 clutch too, providing that i will use e36 transmission and s50 engine, what ltw flywheel should i be using (i.e. for what model BMW?). Should i use one for regular e36?

        Thanks

              No chatter, which is nice.

You're doing an s50 swap with some upgrades right? I wouldn't use a e30 clutch unless it aftermarket like a SPEC, but daily driving with a powerful clutch sucks.

That UUC rocks, and its got a beefy clutch on it.

I'd opt for the lightweight + m5 clutch too if I had another cool grand to burn on my s50 conversion project.

Anyone tried an e30 m3 flywheel/clutch!? I'll be pulling my s12 motor this weekend and I'll have a chance to see if it bolts to the s50. Maybe getting the starter to work might be the hard part. I think the e30 m3 clutch should be up to the task since the s12 is 200hp and the s50 is 240hp. Is hp or torque more relative to a clutch spec?

i'm using a JB Racing flywheel with E30 m3 clutch. i like it and it has very minimal chatter.

you can't use a E30 m3 flywheel, it has different teeth than the starter for the E30/E36 6 cylinder cars. I found out the hard way when I was sent the wrong flywheel for my m3 and had to pull the trans out twice to figure out what it was. you're all glad you didn't bump into me that weekend, i was pissed!

if this is directed to me, i'm using a 325i JB racing flywheel with getrag 260 and m20 starter

you might want to check the distance from crank mounting to pressure plate diaphram. the single mass m20 "i" flywheel might be shorter than the e36/e36m3 tidbits.....needing a longer throwout bearing. (i think the m42 guys w/ single mass flywheels have the same problem....but thats "hear-say".) I had this happen with an "e" car with a dual mass flywheel. I have a few clutches/flywheels sitting around (e36/e36m3/m20single/m20dual) but have not documented all the different dimmensions.

just spend the dough and do it right. get an e36m3 flywheel/clutch.

                        cheers, jason
