flywheel/clutch/plate for S50 in e30

What should be expected chatter wise from going with the 8.5 lb flywheel and stock clutch? Cause mine's only a year old and seems a waste to dump $500 on new clutch.



**By the way I'm new to this forum, and long story short, I totalled my 95 M3 and bought it back for $3,000 (new motor) and am buying an e30 as soon as I find one and I'm sure you can guess the rest....**

Actually just read that the M5 clutch is heavier making the weight almost no different than just using the stage 1 flywheel (11 lbs.) with stock clutch. (Read it on european car web article on UUC website) So I'm guessing unless you really need the extra meat of an M5 clutch, it's pointless?

but why not go for the extra beef of the m5 clutch. Those late model cars had 340hp which means if you go forced induciton in the future your clutch may be just fine. Plus if the final weight comes out the same and the double sprung hub of the M5 clutch makes less noise then what's the issue? Sounds like a win-win to me.

I've got the Sachs E30 M3 race pressure plate and sport sprung disk, aluminum flywheel in a Getrag 260. Tricky to drive, much more-so than with the stock E30 M3 p-plate, stiffer pedal with less compliance, making city driving a bitch at times. It puts the power down though, and good bang for the buck if you're keeping the 228mm clutch/fly.

I'm not really sure, but Elephant Motorsports sells a e36 m3 spring-hub clutch which is meant to be used with a lightweight flywheel. I went this route as it seemed a safer bet than using the e34 disc. As with the e34 disc, you install it with the spring hub facing the flywheel.
