    s50 w / euro 323 fw...how to lock flywheel?

Im taking my time doing a HG job on my s50 swap track car w/ some part time help from a bmw tech.......

I run a euro 323 flywheel, ...how does one lock this flywheel...?

...the dowel/pin to use w/ the s50 block is not inserting into my fly to lock it?....

    pls advise....thnx.

You don't have to lock the flywheel.

You'll have to set TDC using the match marks on the harmonic damper and the front timing cover.

      Fred is spot on.

Not only that, but you get it close enough and then put the cam blocks on pretty easily.

And when the cams need to come out (after you pull the vanos), you'll have to take it out of TDC so that none of the valves collide with the pistons when you rotate the cams individually. I can tell you this since I just swapped cams in my M50TU.

The Pelican Parts method is also very good, I would check that out as well.

If the head is coming off for hg swap and the cams have to come out for some reason (they dont need to as head bolts just come out through clearances) doing cam change with head on bench is much much easier.

Changing camshafts in the car must be a PITA to line up all lifters esp on exhaust side. Joys of slant 6!
