    S52 Price check?

I've recently come across an S52 that has my interest. A coworker of mine was planning on swapping it in to his 199-something non-M 3 series and never got around to it. Currently the head is separated from the block and needs a head gasket but it has been completely rebuilt ground up essentially.

It does not have the computer or harness but that's the only things it's missing.

It was professionally rebuilt at a shop near my work with the help of the mechanic who owns the engine currently, it basically is like it rolled off the production line.

Anyways, he said he would give me a good price on it since he wants it gone and to a good home and said 1000 dollars takes it along with a 3.46 LSD.

    Good deal?

Sounds like a deal to me! People pay way too much for old junkyard motors...

I got my M50, wiring and ZF tranny from an E34 with 150k for $600 so what you have is a good deal friendo. Plus having the head off gives you the opportunity to see the condition of everything so that's cool

              yeah, buy that.

i ended up getting my s52, DME/harness, all accessories, with the ZF for $1500. i think i got a good deal, but the engine is original with over 150k miles, so it will require some refreshening.

How much can I expect to pay for a harness + DME? Also if I use my G260 I need to modify the shift linkage correct? I want to find a ZF but finding stuff around MN is really difficult.

do you have welding skills? the g260 needs to have a crossmember fabbed up, and yes, you're correct, the linkage needs to be cut and modified.

the 3.46 diff is actually a fairly good ratio.. with the g260 it would drop your highway RPMs a small amount and allow you to play with the 7000rpm redline on the s52.

as for harness + DME, check ebay. i'd say a complete OBD2 setup would be around $300-500, depending on condition (uncut, you know?). factor in flashing the DME for another $300-400. also, does the engine come with all sensors? those can get pricey.

Yeah it has all the sensors, it's a complete engine minus the AC compressor. I can weld a bit, I have a welder but I'm not an expert.

You guys realize the diff would be worthless to the OP, right?

Would a 3.64 LSD from a 325is be a better option? I believe those are medium case diffs.

^Well, I'm just going by the fact that the guy you intend to buy this stuff from was collecting parts for an e36, and an e36 differential will not work with an e30.

So the only diffs I can use are from an E30, E28, E24, and E23 correct?
