Where do the two largest wires on the starter go?

I have one large red cable running to alternator and then I have one black cable of which I thought was a ground but I'm finding it is not? I've read that the starter grounds through the casing so I would think the "ground" cable is unnecessary and instead I should have it ran to the distribution block in the front battery tray?

    H e l p.

To add to this: When I turn the key I just get a solid click from the solenoid with the cables arranged as one to the alternator and one as a ground.

pretty sure they just go to the battery. My starter on my swap has two wires on the large lug of starter.

One big wire for constant 12v power to starter from battery, the other to the alternator from starter.

Got real busy this weekend and I'm not at my house during the week due to working so I just have to take it one weekend at a time. So next weekend should be the weekend for start-up.
