    S52 Cam tools

I'm looking into removing my cams from my s52.

Besian Systems require just the cam locks, flywheel lock and vanos exhaust tool, pin
    BMW timing tools:
    Camshafts lock blocks (11-3-240),
    sprocket turner (11-5-490),
    crankshaft lock pin (11-2-300),
    camshaft tensioner lock pin (11-3-292)

I called Baum tools and they said i needed

    Cam blocks (113240)
    TDC PIN
Cable and adapter for VANOS control (126410)
RIGID CHAIN TENSIONOR (114220), i saw someone on youtube take an old tension, fill it with pennies and made his own rigid tensionor.

Just looking for a less expensive tool list to remove cams...

    any input is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'll check it out Haynes, but is Cable and adapter for VANOS control (126410) really needed? It's really expensive at over $300.

Make your own switch/test assembly. search vanos test DIY in this section user 328ijunkie did a quick writeup/demo vid. or search you tube. I put one together worked great. I used an injector plug from M20 harness for the connector to vanos solenoid check your polarity. buy the blocks etc and the air chuck adapter from el paso tool on ebay or try to rent them from someone.
Bentley has the vanos travel specs. GL

pelicanparts has a good write up on how to remove the cams without any tool.

as mentioned previously, you can make your own cam lock tool. hell, if you're handy you could make your own cam removal tool too. they aren't that complicated.

here is a writeup and some images for reference.. http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=214847

you do not need the tools to take them out - just to install; but you need to be at TDC and learn how to unbolt the cams carefully in order not to snap them since they are hollow- There is a youtube video to teach you how to take them off
