If someone gets their car bar'd with a m50 then, swapped in an s52 passing it off as the m50. Could he use the m50 in another e30 and bar it? or is the m50 vin now tied to the first bar'd car?
thanks!

I believe the engine VIN is printed on the BAR label but it's up to the smog guy to check it. Otherwise, they may just look at the label and scan it through. I'm not sure if that's the engine VIN on the bottom or the VIN of the car the sticker was issued to. It may just be the VIN of the car, in which case you could theoretically swap another similar engine in/out. I would think they record the VIN of the new engine though, if not on the label then in the computer system.

I have a barred M50 in my e30 and i also was planning to go S50 eventually but im sure i will have to go thru the process again for the different engine just to be safe.
