24v harness adapters - group buy thread posted!!

I do personally prefer a re-pinned harness, but some people want adapters and it seems like nobody is making them (or at least, not at prices that make sense). I don't want to work on old, dirty harnesses anymore so if you want a re-pinned harness, talk to dave (328ijunkie).

I could be persuaded to make a batch of adapters - something like 10 - if there's enough demand and it's kept simple.

    it would be for:
    Round C101 cars
    OBD1 harnesses

Early cars with the connector in the glovebox and the oil level sensor wiring would be extra (more parts, more work, more R&D).

Basic adapter (just C101 to X20): $175 (shipping included)
    add oil level sensor: $25
add connector in glove box for early cars: $25

Here's an example of the adapters I'd build:

All new wires, pins, connectors, & boots:

    professionally crimped:

Approximately 6" long. This one I used high grade electrical tape for sealing but I'd probably use some shrink wrap instead with braided wire covers.

I could also leave a labeled pigtail for the glovebox connection/oil level sensor if you want to hook that up yourself, instead of charging extra.

    Any interest?

I would buy an OBD2 one.

OBD2 requires a splice into X6031 if you want VSS etc (which you do).

I could provide a pigtail, but you'd have to hook that part up yourself. I could look into a plug in solution but it'd be more wires, and usually with an OBD2 harness I'd cut that connector off and re-route the signals through the harness to the C101.

IMHO, adapters are much better than hacking up your harness. Why would you not want the standard wiring diagrams to make sense? And these are nice pieces - not making all the wires the same color is such a weird concept. :p

A pigtail would suffice if you decide to go this route.

I actually try to make the colors match BMW wire colors within reason - but of course BMW wires are really expensive new, and I don't want to use old junk wires. It's too hard to get consistency, plus I don't always have every color/gage I need in my giant collection of old wiring harnesses.

These wires are high grade, made in Japan. Actually, I originally bought them right after the Fukushima disaster. Shipping was delayed for months because US customs had to scan them for radioactivity. Heh.

Been doing a lot of reading in the ETMs.

IIRC for an OBD2 adapter you would just need to route VSS pin on the C101 to Pin 9 on the X20.

That is the input for abs asc correct? Does the ecu control the asc?

yeah, I looked at my notes, it's the CEL signal that goes through the x6031.

so guys without a CEL don't need the x6031

Pin 15 on the OBD2 MS41.1 is the speed signal input (VSS) coming from ABS/ASC from the right rear wheel sensor on an E36. Which is basically the VSS input. Instead of getting vehicle speed from the cluster speedo / diff speed sensor OBD2 cars get VSS from the ABS wheel speed sensor after its passed on by the ABS/ASC module.

(Still new to sorting through these ETMs so someone please correct me if that's wrong or a bad interpretation.)

Correct. its a little different than the obd1/e30 one.it being a 48 Tooth pulse wheel Signal vs 9.
Thus the ecu thinks you're going really slow all the time. ~1/5.33 of what you're really doing iirc

nobody has found the K-factor in MS41.1? should be a 2 byte value, somewhere in the 20,000 range (pulses per KM).

all you have to do is change this value to pulses per KM for a 9-tooth wheel. then the VSS input from an E30 will work fine.
