Nice. About the only difference is our cams and that vac throttle body of yours. How do you like it?

These engines are weird. In assuming it was a mustang dyno? Some cars with no real engine work except cams have dynoed at 260+ and others have trouble breaking 220. we obviously need custom tunes to take full advantage of our hardware.

As for the speed issue, everything has continuity and is wired how it should be. Im waiting to hear back from a few sources that may know what i have to do

Hugh, curious to find out what that issue is.
The TB is gorgeous! Haven't bolted her on yet. With the TRM chip already struggling this much i'm going to wait until the Vipec is up and running before slapping that on.
My 245 hp dyno run was on a dynojet.

          Idle is meh.
OBD1 just runs this engine very poorly. Ill be able to get another 20hp easy with some tuning on a standalone ECU.

Does your car get an accurate speed signal to the dme?

I spoke with matt at trm today. He is going to be talking to some of the techs tomorrow and giving me a call back. Hes confident that both of my problems are related to this lack of vss. Ill post any findings soon as hear back.

But for now, its raining here in sw fl and ive been having quite the laugh with near bald rear tires.

              Yup never had a problem.
I have a brand new speed sensor (one of the many things i replaced during the swap).
Both DME and cluster get accurate signal.

                Damn you.. Lol

One of the things he mentioned that i have not heard before, is that the sensor in the diff may be bad but still allow the speedo to work. Can anybody confirm this?

it might work some of the time but then the DME would get the signal too.

if the speedo works, the signal to the DME will work.

Only other thing that i could think of besides bad DME is that some PO of your car might have ran a jumper wire that connected the speed sensor directly to the gauge cluster. Try unplugging the DME, then test for continuity between the speed sensor and your gauge cluster.

I have been having the same issue with my swap. It has been holding me back from passing the California referee. my set up is also a late model (90) 325i with a s50. I used a red label 413 (stock chip) then i switched to a remanufactured silver label 506 (stock chip), same problem. replaced the speed sensor but i do not have the scanner to check if that did the trick. then i went over my swap wiring and rechecked with etm's. I will try unplugging the dme then testing for continuity between the speed sensor and the gauge cluster like berlow94 said and report back.

Change your speedo. Ive had the chip on the sspeedo die a few times and not output a signal...

Cluster isnt the problem. Used my modis with the oscilloscope function to determine signal is leaving the cluster. Everything was operating how it should.

Basically the fix is just getting the vss deleted with your piggyback tune. TRM took care of this for me without hessitation. They have been great to deal with. They are charging $50 dollars to add the delete to the tune. Its currently in the mail, will report back when the new chip is in.

You can delete the VSS but then your ECU no longer cuts fuel on engine breaking so gas mileage will go down and you may experience more backfiring than normal during engine braking.

Grab a multimeter and have someone monitor your output wire as you drive. Did your cruise control work before your swap?
