yes, the evap line from the tank to the canister should be open. its the line from the canister to the tbody that has the valve on it......im pretty sure all m20's m42's and m50's have the check valve after the canister. its just the m50's are actuated by a signal from the ecu.

Even if it does throw a code, it will not change the ECU mapping.

on the diagram you posted, hose #3 goes back to the fitting on the bottom of the throttle body closest to the firewall, right? If so then all I need is a Fuel tank breather valve (#1) in diagram and I can hook it all up factory-like.

Cool, that's pretty easy. All these little things take up so much time, mostly just to gather the parts and all that nonsense, meanwhile I still need brakes, so I guess i'm not going anywhere quickly...

Any opinions on replacing the charcoal canister? Mine's 20 years old, do these things go bad? They look pretty expensive to replace.

So, if you pull the canister out, you should or should not plug the line to the gas tank?

Mine has just been dangling down there, I want to do something with it. It would be scary to have gas fumes just venting into the engine bay.

More so, I would like to not get water down that line into my gas tank...

Also, I am running a s52, but I get no codes from that.

Thats what I would have thought, what should I do? Sitck a mini air filter on it or something? Or just let it dangle?

Sure, stick a filter on it.

are there any electronics for the charcoal canister that need to be swapped from the e36 to the e30 chassis on an m50 swap.

i know on my jeep there was a computer activated "evap purge system" that was connected to the manifold by a vacuum line as well as the evap canister. There was also a "leak detection pump". does the e36 have anything like this?

the E36 has a fuel evaporator valve. It has a plug on it that goes into the a plug on the E36 engine harness. The plug should be coming out of the stock E36 engine harness coupled with the HFM plug. There is a vacuum line that goes from the TB to the evap valve and then from the valve to the charcoal canister. I hooked mine up last weekend, no problem at all and plenty of room to do it. I inverted the holster for the charcoal canister and put it on the firewall side of the strut tower and it worked perfectly.

ok well i'll make sure to pull all that when i get my m50 on SUNDAY (crossing fingers).

are you using the e30 charcoal canister but with e36 electronics (thats what it sounds like).

i want it all to be 100% working so i can take it to a BAR referree and get the swap certified.
