how do i connect the purge valve correctly? do i need the canister? if i do where can i buy the canister? the car is boosted, its 87 e30 m50b25 swap. any pics or diagrams would be helpful. thanks

Since you are boosted you would need to run the charcoal cannister line to the intake before your turbo (only spot where you have vacuum). Most people don't like running fuel vapours through their turbo, hence why nobody runs the charcoal cannister with a turbo, and instead they just vent the line to the atmosphere.
