    crank won't turn

Dudes, what's the deal with getting the mains line bored if using ARP MSK?

    20ftlb, crank turns fine.
    40ftlb, crank turns ok
50ftlb, crank needs some effort to get it moving.
    60ftlb, forget it.

Why so fricken high TQ with these things anyway? Stock M20 bolts are 60nm, M50 is angle tight. But they use the same bearings and all....

    Update...

I took the crank out and it has rubbed the bearing shells right from where the oil hole is (weakest point in the block structure in this area), and also has a corresponding rub 180 opposite in the cap.

This says to me that the block is being distorted by the mega clamp load from the ARP MSK.

The crank journals are within stock spec, the bearings a std Glyco, checked.

    thanks
    pete

SOB still isn't right with stock bolts. Starting to think that the Glyco mains aren't quite right.

Journals measure 49.99mm and this is the upper size limit for ACL and Federal Mogul.

Confused, but the block is in the car and going to the engine shop for an align hone with the ARP in place.

As I said on e30t, the mains always have to be align bored when upgrading fasteners (same with rods). You probably have a "big" crank and there were three different bearing shells from BMW. Micro-polish the crank to size.

            Cross-posting!

Yep, the crank has white paint dots.

She's in for align hone now, but I will investigate journal size as well. 49.99 is too big?

328i Junkie, you can't put the caps in backwards, the registers won't let you.
