Did you pull the insulation off of the heater fan cover?

Are you using a load leveler?

The engine has to be pretty much parallel with the ground to make it to the mounting holes. Try tilting the rear of the engine up even 2 degrees. It can make the difference.

Before you get too carried away, make sure your engine mounts are oriented the correct way. It'd suck to get it where it'd fit, then have the turn the engine mounts around.

i just put an S50 in a 318is three weeks ago. You don't need to pull the insulation off the heater fan cover, mind doesn't touch it at all.

Make sure you're motor mounts are loose on the mounting arms, so you can guide them into the subframe easily.

You say you can't get the motor far enough back...what is it hanging up on??

I dont know I am not using a load leveler and sun bitch keeps on lay sideways were one arm will be high up so I am always trying to fight the motor at the same time and which way do the motor mounts need to go is it long threads up or short threads up

I used E28 motor mounts and theres is a tab and a stud. The stud goes to the outside.

I didn't use a load leveller either, and my motor dropped in perfectly balanced left to right with chains on the front and rear hooks built onto the motor. The gearbox was attached when I did it also, hardest part to clear was the front swaybar, but I thought it really went in there pretty easily.

Yea the one time i dropped in a s50 it took some time but it went in. I think we took the sway bar out when we did it and i put a jack under the tranny, which was conected, and lifted it up while we dropped the motor down.

if you're having problems, just go buy a leveler. They're not that expensive and they are a decent investment.
