    m52 & zf320 - shift linkage rubs driveshaft

In fifth gear the shift lever rubs ever so slightly on the driveshaft. It does not have a harmonic vibration damper installed. From what I can tell it is the original 328i shift linkage, although there is a strange looking weld towards the bottom, below the carrier bushing. I can't tell if that's a custom job or not.

I saw fixes involving bending the selector rod, but I don't believe that will fix my problem because its the shift lever that's rubbing, not the selector rod..

I'm thinking about just replacing the entire assembly with an aftermarket short shifter. Does anyone have experience with using an aftermarket E36 SSK with their E30 M52 swap?

another option is to buy This

remove the short shifter from the blue cup (assuming you like your stock shifter) and install the cup in your shift carrier with the provided circlips, then install your oem shifter into the cup.

This blue piece just raises the shifter pivot point in the carrier to make clearance for the longer lower shift lever.
