Ya that was what I thought. I am trying to sell my 3.23 and buy a 3.73. Do you guys know how hard is it to transfer the internals? Is there a write up? If it's not too hard I rather do that. Thanks
s52 obd1 zf + 4.10 lsd anyone?

Good for track, bad for conepacking. It may limit your top speed a little on track, but the real issue will be lots of extra shifting on the autos course.Leave a comment:

Just put an S50 into my 325is with a 3.73, top speed is 130, with it bouncing off the fuel cutoff. 80 is like 4500 in 5thLeave a comment:

For the record, there's a 1.3% difference in rolling diameter between that middle choice and a 205/50-16.
I'm at about 3300 RPMs running 75 on a 3.15 Torsen in 5th (ZF320).Leave a comment:

I have an S52 > ZF 320Z > S3.73. Lots of fun in the city but revs too high on the highway. I'm around 4k RPM going 70mph. Not very practical but then again, the e30 isn't my daily.
Would not recommend S3.73 or anything higher. My plan is S2.93 + boost.Leave a comment:

Reading this thread has me excited and potentially worried about my swap. M52/ZF + 3.91. Still a ways out but should be interesting. DD and track time at Thunderhill and possibly adding Auto-X.Leave a comment:

Nice driving but that was very unsafe to keep driving after your rear view popped off and was dangling in front of your face like that. I'm sure it would have been just as easy to drive down pit lane and pull it off and only loose minimal time. In a "gentleman's race" (is that what they are calling DE days now?) there is no prize worth being unsafe like that.
Either way, the 4.10 seemed pretty nice on that track.Leave a comment:

S52 zf 5 speed with 4.10 was my setup last year. It wasn't as bad as you think but a 3.75 for track would definitely be the way to go. Not sure for a street car.
I'm also running 255/40 17's so that helps the shorter gears
This will give you an idea how it was:

I have an OBDII S52, ZF trans, and a 3.73 LSD. Its insane, and I only just ran it last weekend. I'm swapping to something reasonable now. The 3.73 is absolutely insane. You can roast tires on command in second gear, and probably burn a little in third, but I haven't tried. I have a 3.23 from the E36 M3, and I want to fit it under there, but ill end up going with a 3.25 or 3.15 to be more simple.Leave a comment:

The perfect factory setup is:
Zf 5 speed and 3.15 or 3.23.
Tires between
225/45/17
235/40/17
245/40/17
Almost everything bmw equips with a 5 speed non overdrive 5th gear has a 3.15 or 3.23 final
E34 525i NV zf310 has 3.23 final
E34 525i g250 has 3.23 final
E36 g250 325i has 3.15 final
E46 g250 325i has 3.15 final
E36 m3 zf310 has 3.15 final
E36 m3 zf 320 has 3.23 final
E36/7 z3 2.8 has zf 320 and 3.15 final
E36/7 z3m s52 zf320 has 3.23 final
E36/7 z3m s54 zf320 has 3.15 finalLeave a comment:

3.73 isn't that great I'm running a 3.46 now because the 3.15 locked up someone forgot to put oil in it
I'm still shooting for 3.23 94 3.15 for a perfect serupLeave a comment:
