    1987 325is S52 Swap wiring dilemma

    My equipment:
    1987 325is (build date 02/1987) Automatic
S52 OBDII (EWS, rear O2s and SAP deleted)

I have found numerous wiring guides online and none seem to match my C101 plug that I have. Ill show the wire colors and pins for the ENGINE side of the C101 plug below.

Pin - Color (ENGINE SIDE of C101)
    1 - Blue
    2 - Blue/White (shouldn't this be blue and Yellow???)
    3 - NOT USED
    4 - Brown/Violet
    5 - Brown/Green
    6 - Green/White
7 - Green (larger gauge wire)
8 - NOT USED (this must be in the C104 plug. The other diagrams say that it is "Fuel Rate")
    9 - NOT USED (also in C104???)
    10 - Blue/Yellow
    11 - White/Green
    12 - Brown
    13 - Green/Violet (larger gauge wire)
    14 - NOT USED
    15 - NOT USED
    16 - White/Black
    17 - NOT USED
    18 - Black/Yellow (larger gauge wire)
    19 - NOT USED
    20 - NOT USED

I do not know the functions of these wires, but If the pin connections that need to be made are correct, I don't mind the colors being off. The electrons don't care what color the insulation on the wire is. I was mainly confused by the differences in thew wire colors, and wondered if anything else was off. I'm trying my hardest not to go back through the wiring diagrams and figure this out on my own.

This has been one resource: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/M5x_Looms

I am using the M52B28 section.

My other main resource has been this: http://s707.photobucket.com/user/eth...ngMk2.png.html

    I realize the second source is for a 1990 model (pin 20 is different...well i don't even have a pin 20.)

I think my car being an automatic has something to do with the different wire colors. I'm not hopelessly lost, but I'm actively seeking help. :)

    Thanks in advance.

I just got it. Thanks. I looked it over and It looks like it going to take bit of wire tracing. I was just hoping for an easier way. Oh well, I guess i cant be lazy if I'm saving $400 by not buying an adapter.

        $400 for an adapter? :o

anyway, you have an '87 so it has the C104. the tach and MPG go through the C104 instead of the C101, but the VSS is totally seperate. thankfully later BMW made it all go through one plug, because early car wiring is a friggn' mess.

as far as wire colors, you have it right. they actually don't really change year to year, and even the E36 uses the same colors for the same function. Some people use chassis side colors though which doesn't make any sense and maybe that's why you are confused.

I can do that adapter for $250 :p

Yeah, I saw MMW selling them and TreeHouse racing for around $400. Hey, business is business. Want to help me out since I gave you those tunes? :) hahaha. You already did help me. Thanks man!

Edit: What is VSS again? I should search before I ask... but oh well.

Re read MMW harness service. Pretty sure doesn't do adapters. Installs C101 plug/pins on later harness ..eliminates adapter. GL
