    Running a 24v Motor Without a BMW

If you read my thread in the V8 swap section, this is basically the same thing. I am contemplating a very unusual engine swap: a M50/52 or S50/52 into a 1965 Dodge D100

    The Truck

What is coming out of there (it is locked)

    Interior

So, what needs to be done to run a 24v variant outside of a BMW? I am assuming that I would need:
    Motor
    Trans
    Engine Harness
Part of the body harness, for ECU and gauge cluster (I do intend to use the BMW cluster)
all other necessary parts (cooling, A/C?, etc.)

Being that you guys deal with these all the time, educate me.

    Thanks in advance!

Looks like that dodge needs a lot of work before you start thinking about engine swap.

electronically the engine harness needs power and ground and contains the computer as well.

fuel pump can be a toggle switch

mounts for powerplant = custom you are making them.

dodge looks great for engine swap; you will need the engine/gearbox/drive shaft - just drop it off with the original at a drive line shop after the motor/trans is installed.

Well, actually it now looks like this:

As for the electrical side, thanks wanganstyle. To ask, does this need a speed sensor feed? I was considering an m60 and it required one.

Speed sensor feed is needed for the vanos activation; you could probably rig one up

Why not do an M30? I'd think that the torque curve would be more "right" and it'd look a lot more appropriate in the engine bay as well.

+1 on M30 unless you go s52. Really is this going to be for cool factor? I think the M30 would look the coolest in the truck also. All in all, this seems very interesting and hope your venture goes well.

The engine electronics are relatively self contained, so in a project like this, I'd expect the biggest difficulties to be with things like cooling and the prop shaft, where it's going to be largely uncharted territory, but if you are, or know a properly good fabricator, none of that is insurmountable.

After looking at the options, an m30 seems to fit it the best. As for why I would do this swap, it is for several reasons:
                  1) Reliability
                  2) Fuel Economy
                  3) Why not!

Wiring will be a cake walk. Its the rest that will be a bitch lol. Engine harness pretty much just needs power and 12v to the starter.

Bmw inlines 6s I think would be a pig in a truck, maybe m62?
                        M30 would be badass though.
