update-- well not really. I sprayed some carb cleaner into the intake and nada. All i got was the engine turning over and once again a short fire. Seems like it only fires the first time I try to start it of the day...

Since I rebuilt the top end of the motor, could this be a timing issue? I think it's all correct, but honestly it seems like I've checked everything with nothing to show for it...Comment

If you aseembled it with the proper vanos setup tools its almost impossible to f up the timing.
If you r3vtard styled the install without the proper tool set it will be wrong yes.
If the bs litmus test of starter fluid = car doesnt fire then your wiring = wrong.
If the car wont fire all the time on starter fluid then your spark plugs are just not doing anything.
Back to square one:
Water temp sensor
Crank position
Power and ground at dme/ injectors/ coil
Bs test shows all; if engine doesn't idle on brake cleaner than your shit is not wired correctly.
Unplug afm and tps and iac to make sure they are not mixed up or bad.

Disconnect everything in the engine harness and check each plug by pulling back the rubber insulation and cross checking the wire colours with the bmw ETK manual.
If you did everything perfect by ETK it should just fire.
I did a s52 obd1 e34t swap a few years ago and my shit wouldn't fire. Turns out the CRANK sensor plug was plugged into the oil pan level instead crank sensor. Duh!!!

Think simple:
If your dads car didn't have gas in the tank it would fire up every time on starter fluid.
Don't disable dads car; just stating the logic.
Disconnect everything in the engine harness and check each plug by pulling back the rubber insulation and cross checking the wire colours with the bmw ETK manual.
If you did everything perfect by ETK it should just fire.

OMFG something weird is going down with my engine... SO. When I try and turn it over normally, it just coughs and dies. You all saw the video, HOWEVER, when i tried to compression test it (took out the fuel pump relay and compression tester in cylinder 1) it started right up. weird. OKAY. Put everything back together and same thing as before cough die. Take out the relay again and bam starts up. wtf. Seems like it's pumping too much fuel into the cylinders and is flooding it when it is trying to start, thus making it die....
And yes i do get a check engine light with the key in the ignition
Also I rechecked my wiring and found a couple wires mixed up. None of them should've effected starting though. Fixed them and still nothing happening.Comment

Yes it does have that. I think i have it hooked up correctly although, it could be wrong. I put the small hose coming out of the underside of the manifold onto it.Comment
