    My M50/G260 shifter carrier

    Hi,
I just finished my first swap. Installed an M50b25tu with the M20 G260 tranny.
I just thought Id share what I did with the carrier.
I just went to a welder with the idea an he welded me two plates.
I drill hole and mount them into the chassis.

I slotted the hole in the chassis so I can move the carrier front and back. I can really put the lever where I want from front to back with the carrier.(Would be nice with a X5 lever, no need to bend the lever)
I bend the selecting rod like everyone else did.

I'm on solide mount, Id not run this setup without at least solid tranny mount and my car's rought on the edge I dont mind drilling hole in it. Id probably not do that on a mint garage queen car.
    Hope it can help!

Looks great! I did something similar with the early model shifter carrier and it feels spectacular

I've been wondering why BMW didn't triangulate the shift carrier attachment points. Nice solutions here.

Is this necessary to do if you use the g260? Haven't seen this before.

i guess to avoid any problems due to shifting issues while the engine/tranny is moving with bad mounts.

if the shifter is solid like this, there is a chance (using soft mounts) that the gears start poping out by themselves by the movement of the assembly and/or miss shifts.

with the carriers as bmw designed, the shifter will move along with the tranny and not with the body, thus 'no miss shifts' and no gears poping out.

i hope my understanding answered your question.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I didn't think of the movement from stock mounts.

They still could have put two attachment points on top of the transmission with the single bushing on the chassis as-is. But they've engineered cars a lot more than I have.
