M50 and how much should I pay for it?

    Sup r3v,
My buddy has an M50 that he's looking to sell, from what I know the motor has about 120k on it, but it has a few issues, he's looking to get $500 for it but I feel thats a bit too high.

    his motor needs
    -new cams
    -head rebuild
-new gaskets all throughout the motor
    -water pump
    -new flywheel
    -(possible) Oil pump

And while the motor is out of the car I'd like to replace the timing chain and maybe even rebuild the bottom end just for my own peace of mind with the motor.

I know nothing about 24v swaps but I've always wanted to do one, so how much do you think this motor is actually worth? because like I said, I feel like the price is a little high.

Also, he has a cross brace from an E36 M3 convertible that he'll sell to me for $10! Does anybody know if that will fit on an E30?

    Thanks!

if it actually needs all that stuff then it is worth scrap metal price. M50's are everywhere, and good ones can be had for less than your friend is asking so I'd keep looking if I were you.

Trans brace won't fit you would use an e30 trans brace in a swap.

That's what I was thinking about the brace just wanted to double check. And if I could get it for less than $100 would it be worth it?

I bought my engine, trans (ended up being crap), harness and DME for $300, and the engine was complete minus a water pump. Your friend is mental.

And no, don't even bother with that motor. You can buy a good running one for less than $500 or wait till a good deal pops up.

It would be good for spare parts, but I would look for something more complete. My brother went a bought a rusted out 95 325i in D.C. and pulled the motor. He sold the cat converters and the car as scrap and made money. I think it had 140k on the motor. Still, I would definitely look for something better than this.

$300:M50tu w/trans and trimmings (like above)... that engine you ask about is $50-$100 tops!
