Alright i grounded the wire on my sensor and it sent my gauge arm flying so it is the right plug, and it is a new sensor. Is it possible something is wrong with my cluster i mean my gas gauge doesnt work either.

Did you swap the rear-most temp sensor out for the brown m20 sensor?

Are we supposed to do that even on 318is cars cause i think i just used the old 318is one.

the temp gauge (318is or 325i single prong) sensor is self grounding to the head. if you installed with thread tape, it will not ground and you will not get any reading. just a thought.

im sure you already know this.......but when you fill the coolant res, the system will have a LOT of air pockets. about 3/4gal. when engine is brought carefully up to temp, it opens the thermostat and allows the rest of the 3/4gal coolant to be added.

                    cheers, jason

Make sure you back fill the system correctly or you'll get air pockets, and that will cause the overheating issue.

Update: First i only had one hot hose then i put a funnel filled it with water and used the down pressure to force more water in the sytem the other hose got warm but the temp gauge is still going to 3/4 slowly. I am going to start it again and see if both hoses will get warm with out the funnel trick. Also i am not running anykind of fan as of yet and i am running a stock s50 thermostat which is new.

P.S.I know about getting the air pockets

How are your hoses going to the firewall into the heater core situated? If they are backward it wont flow right for some reason.
                          Im now E30less.

I had a simular problem with my oem temp sensor, 3/4 or past red, freaked me out. Had a electric fan installed, no a a/c system at all, and it still was reading "cooked". Bought an after market guage and I'm reading a constant 210 F. Couldn't be happier.
