Start by making sure that all cylinders are firing. I recommend an IR thermometer on the exhaust manifold (it's like $20 and really useful).

It's running on all cylinders now. It wasn't before, it was running on five due to a stuck injector. That header primary was not turning gold like the rest. ;-)

Ok so I held it at 3k RPMs for three minutes. After doing that twice, it is nice and quite.

Huge BUT is I shut it down and tried to restart and it won't start. :-(

I'm running a 413 red label with a stock M50 chip right now. Hopefully that didn't screw something up.

I tried again and it started fine. And now I have code 1223 for coolant temp sensor.

Just to be certain, the black sensor at the front of the head is for the DME correct?

I know this isn't related but my coolant temp gauge doesn't work even though I put the e30 sensor in place of the blue/2nd temp sensor in the head.

Sounds like I need to replace both temp sensors huh?

Wow, looks like I had the plugs swapped. CEL is off and now my coolant gauge works. LOL

Car runs great! No leaks! EVERYTHING works! Mine is an Eta and the CEL/stomp test I wired works, oil pressure gauge with dummy light works, VSS works, tach works. All of the extra wiring was integrated into the E36 X20.

FWIW my M50TU in my E30 has lifter tap when it sits for more than a month or two. Start it up, let it get warm, hold revs to like 2500 - 3000 for about 30 secs then shut it off. Come back in 10 mins and its fine. If I just drive the car it resolves itself also.
