    M50 swap life problems

    Hey r3v people. First post.
    Recently did a m50 swap to my 91 318is.

I am just trouble shooting some problems and need a little help.

    Current setup
    -91 318is
-Getrag 260 and 325 drive train
    -m50 from 1991 m50b25nv
    -Akg Harness adapter

    Problem 1-
My starter won't engage the fly wheel
Things I've done to trouble shoot
    Starter tested at AutoZone- passed
Tested the wiring by laying starter on frame rail with all wiring hooked up and hit the key for a second.
Bendix popped out and gear turned.
In short it's not the wiring or starter.

I did shave the oil pan a bit to let the flywheel sit flush.
Motor turns by hand but the starter will not turn it.
Single mass flywheel from Getrag 260

It almost seems like a space issue.

Anyone else have a problem with the swap where the starter can't reach or goes to far over the flywheel and not turning the motor?

What starter did you use. Needs an m20 g260 starter.

Clutch and Flywheel combo? May be causing spacing issues so it's missing entirely.

Starter fro. G260. Ik it works with this flywheel trans beacuse I had it in with My m20.
I do not remember the clutch but it was also working with my previous motor and trans.

I just tried loosing the starter and doing this made it sit at a slight angle. I hit the key and it turned the motor. Grinding of coarse but now Ik know it's definaly the postion of it.

          2 possibilities.
          1. The bell housing spacer plate is holding the starter from sitting correct. It's the thin "tin" peice that sits between the TRANS and the block.

          2. I didn't grind enough of the oil pan fins off to get the flywheel to sit right although I'm 90% sure I did enough.

Tell me what u guys think.

Yeah, M42 and late model M20 starters are the same, only M42 has a smaller pinion gear.
