    M52 swap Knocking !!!! HELP

I have a immediate knock that is coming from the motor, it sounds like its coming from the bottom end, i pulled every coil one by one, and no change,
i accidentally put on the e34 oil pan baffle "windage tray" when installing the pan, any idea if the baffle could be hitting the crank

    heres a photo

    is this my case ??

I had an experience a few years ago that taught me a lesson about windage trays. The M50 and S52 ones are Massively different because of the obvious stroke differences. I put an M50 one on an S52 car and had the slightest contact between one of the rod cap bolts and the windage tray. Was a horrible noise....

Maybe yours was damaged? AFAIK, they are all the same part shared between the M5x engines, including the S52. At least, it worked fine for me when I swapped an M50 scraper tray onto an S52.

I made the same mistake but was lucky enough to spin the engine by hand while it was still out.

E34 M50 is riveted to the oil pan, Rear sump engines have the one pictured.

It sounds like OP has the E34 one installed. I feel like this isn't an unheard of issue:

Not all E34 pans have the built in trays... The pan in my E30 does not have this, and uses the regular bolt-onto-block tray (on an M52 FWIW, and no contact). I'd look up the cutoff date for when which pan superseded the other, but I'm too lazy :)

^ this. There are different baffles. I used an m50nv pan that had a baffle rivveteted in. It didnt hav e crank clearance issue but it woulf not clear the gusseting in the block so i had to trim it.

I ran into the same problem, had to take the engine out and replace the baffle.
