    s52 EWS nonsense vs S50?

Alright, looking at two swaps currently, a chipped s50 from a 95 M3,
    or a stock s52 from a 98 M3.

The s50 is appealing because it's in better condition, and it's chipped, but the asking price is about 400 dollars more than the s52 However, I know that with the S52 and the OBD2 stuff, I need to have a ECU flashed to rid it of a few things, such as the EWS and secondary o2 sensors and such.

So, is there a way I can manually work around what would need to be flashed, or would I be spending the 400 or so for a tune/flash (like the TRM one) anyway, and I should just go with the S50?

I tried to do some research, but didn't find much, I appreciate the help guys!

Well to me it sounds like a good idea to take the motor that is in the best shape. An s52 motor can always be swapped to OBD1
    Current
    99 328i (Sold)
    91 318is M50B25TU
    89 325ix (Parted out)
    87 325is (Parted out)
    95 525i (Parted Motor for 91 318is)

But if you swap it to OBD1 you would need a chip anyways. At that point you might as well keep it obd2 and just get it reflashed. As stated above, i would pick the motor that is in the best condition.

Check out kassel performance. I used them for my M52 swap and had everything removed from the ECU and it worked perfect and turn around was great to

I did a write up about flashing your own OBDII MS41.2 ECU. It's not very hard, and I think they have made a lot of advances in flashing since I did my swap a while ago. More flashing programs, full writes, etc. If you have to pay anyone, I recommend Dave from MMW. Not sure of the price, but it seems to be well worth it.

Edit: After further review, MS41.2 flashing has come a LONG way in a short amount of time. It actually inspired me to re-flash my car in the next week or so. If you need any help with it, I can try to be a resource. If you just want to send it off and be done with it though, I still think its well worth your money.
