CEL troubles

Hi all,

I have a NVm50 in a 1991 318is, and am not getting a CEL lighting up or stomp test to read out. I have tried a 402 red label and 403 green label to no avail. A CEL is needed in CA to make it smog legal.

I have checked all the fuses currently installed, the CEL bulb is getting power, tested the continuity between both sides of the c101 connector and the bulb at the cluster, and am getting 12v there.

Thoughts?
Wrong wiring? Could there be a break from the c101 to the DME?

dumb question but is the wiring done through the C101? On mine, the CEL is on the X20 pin #8, a gray wire... being a late model, you could attach that to the C101 wherever the CEL wiring was.
