    M52B28 X20 version 3.0x10^6

I am fitting a M52B28 OBD1 into an stripped out E30 with the complete body harness removed. I plan to wire up only what is needed for the engine to run properly and will be using an AutoSport Lab Race Capture Pro and using Bluetooth to android dash for a display.

reckon these are the necessary pins and functions.

    Pin No. Wire colour Function

    7....black violet....EWS II
    9....black white....vehicle speed
    12..brown violet...water temp
    13..green violet...fuel pump
    14..black white....speed
    15..black green....unloader relays
    18..black yellow...ignition switch – start
    20..black............engine speed
    21..green............ignition switched power
    22..green white....oxygen sensor relay
    23..brown green...oil pressure
    25..blue..............ignition warning charge light

Do these minimum functions/connections sound correct?

These pins and wire colours were taken from a chart provided by a fellow in the UK fitting an 1995 328i sourced M52B28 like mine.

EDIT: Didn't realize you're in AUS. I'm not sure how the OBD1 M52 harnesses run, but I'm pretty sure they're a lot different than what I had posted.

A lot of that goes to the e30 cluster, so you'll need to reroute things like the oil pressure switch to a dummy light or into that dash setup you have.

Alternator charge control circuit runs though the cluster somehow as well, so you'll need to figure out how to bypass that if you haven't.

EWS wire could be snipped if it is chipped/flashed out of the dme.

Are you running Siemens MS41.0 or Bosch 413?

It is a siemens MS41.0. It is fitted with a piggyback Unichip and was tuned for the big bore TB and M50 inlet manifold.

I cannot find an ETM for this specific model. Also I am not aware of anyone who can delete the EWS II in Australia, and chip the OBD1 ecu. I understand it is not straight forward like the OBD2. I am trying to do this on the cheap because I'll probably update to a stand alone sometime later.

If I have problems with the EWS II I'll have to reconsider

I am trying to map things now. Here is a work in progress. I'll verify wire colours and pin numbers when I get the engine out of storage. I have the charge light (pin 25) going to a light on the dash. I probably need to check to see if it does more. Oil pressure goes to a light on the dash.

Romraider is starting to get some MS41.0 support. It should follow pretty quickly, since once things are defined in MS41.2, their .1 and .0 counterparts are easier to locate/map out.

          check out this forum: http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=42

EWS is an easy thing to delete as long as you know where the byte that controls it is. I'm not sure if it is documented there, or in the xml file yet, but if you made a thread and asked, I bet someone knows.
