As far as dyno #s, no 2 dynos can obtain the same results from the same engine. Hell, you can't get a perfect replication of a dyno run with the same dyno and engine! There is always a variance, and a degree of error.

However, more importantly, there is a correction factor, which the dyno operator can change. If the operator is having people over for a dyno day, why not tell everyone that they have really strong engines? They're paying for the dyno results, might as well make them happy! ~220 whp on a stock S50 is a bit much, though I'm sure its a strong S50.

            I'm confused. Wasn't that a E30 S50 vs E36 M3 video? Why is everyone talking about E46 M3's then?
"I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Well the original post mentions a race between 2 E46 M3s and an E36 M3. The video was only for one race.

No, I'm not using stock internals in the engine. Ferrea is the name of the manufacturer of the internals. The intake and exhaust valves are +2mm (over stock), and they are sodium-filled hollow valve stems. I got their springs, retainers, etc.. as well. The competition headwork really only opened up the top end way up high. It got me about 12 more rwhp, and not much torque (maybe 1 or 2 lb/ft). Worth it? No. For the money spent on the competition headwork, I could have bought a Eurosport High Performance Twin Screw Supercharger, and gotten over 100 more hp. But, that being said, I do enjoy the reliability of a N/A engine, and not worrying too much about a rebuild in the near future.

You got Ferrea Ti retainers? I believe you need to check the condition every 20K... rather than plain ole nitrided steel retainers that last a lot longer.

                  Sick setup though.

Yeah i started the thread with no video ....cause my friend has it on his mini cd recording video cam. However 2 or 3 cams came out to the last meet so i had a better opportunity to get footage. So until my friend gets me the e46 there is no video.

Yup, well, my car does spend some time at Turner at least once a year for something or another. They mentioned this, and I said it would not be a problem to have them check it out when my mileage gets to be that high.

I have a 3.73lsd and I still spin on a second gr roll, just enough roll (in second) for full clutch engaugement (sp), then WOT = bunt rubber. Make my auto-x lauch interesting. First is useless.

And as for those guys on BF.com, 230rwhp (stock) can't be right. Period. That's 270 crank hp stock. I'll call those guys liars right to their faces. I refuse to believe that somehow, it was a REALLY good day for a BMW engine builder, and there was a miraculous planetary alignment, and that those engines are making 270 crank hp. You sure you're not talking about a Euro s50?

My engine is an OBD1 s52, race built and tuned by Turner motorsport. I'm making around @282rwhp right now, and that's with $eriou$ work. I've got dyno sheets to prove it, and I will tomorrow, as soon as I root through my boxes from my move, and toss it on the scanner. I'd love to see your dyno sheet for your car, as I'm sure lots of other e30s5X guys would as well.

By the way, the shorty headers from Turner are worth the cost.

No US stock e36 M3 will make 270 crank hp. Now, it is possible, since that dyno shops do have to comntinue to make money, that they maybe "corrected" a little too much to sell some more dyno runs. Who wants to go to a shop that has a bad rep because customers who think they should have more hp than they really do bitch about it to their friends? Using a standard of 17%-18% drivetrain loss puts 228rwhp at 270crank.
