E30 S50 vs. E46 M3

I find it hard to believe that your stock s50 made 222rwhp. I'm not calling B.S. or anything, but that's almost 260 crank hp from a stock motor, and I find that a bit of a stretch.
222hp x 1.17 (drivetrain loss) = 260 crank hp
The power to weight ratio is what it's about. If your e30 weighs, lets say 2600lbs, the power to weight ratio (for your claimed 260crank hp) is 10lbs/hp. If the e46 M3 weighs 3400lbs, then the power to weight is 10.2lbs/hp.
About the most I've ever heard from a stock e36 M3 motor is @210rwhp. Mine made 205rwhp or 206rwhp before the modding began.
Throw a 3.25lsd, or a 3.46lsd on instead of that 2.93lsd, and you'll be even faster off the line (if that's what floats your boat). I wouldn't get much of a hard on for headers/cats/exhaust if I were you. You may see 10rwhp and 12-15lb/ft of torque, but not the amount you'll like. Spend the money instead on a Euro MAF/CAI setup and Schrick 264/256 cams (with JC software). That should get you to at least 250rwhp.
Oh, and just for peace of your mind, why not dyno the car first, just to see if your "friend" was pulling your leg or not.

My friend has the dyno sheet, i should get in contact with him to get it from him he lives like 45 mins away. Anyway dynos dont always read right.......either way the motor is strong.
Btw on bimmerforums there are a handful of people that dynoed like 220-230rwhp on S52
Well we raced from 2nd gear 40mph to 120mph i dont get traction in first gear, ever.Last edited by aeryk7; 05-31-2006, 03:18 PM.

Yeah i already have a 540 HFM just need the software i know the mods for these very well and know these engines very well. I have personally owned four e36 M3's and have one for sale through my business right now.
Obd1 car have a much greater increase in hp from exhaust mods/removing cats than obd2, Im not doing headers the cost to hp benefit is minimal, unless i make them myself.

Whatever man, like I said, I'm not calling B.S. on you, but it does seem unusually strong for an e36 M3 motor, that's all. And as for those guys on BF.com, 230rwhp (stock) can't be right. Period. That's 270 crank hp stock. I'll call those guys liars right to their faces. I refuse to believe that somehow, it was a REALLY good day for a BMW engine builder, and there was a miraculous planetary alignment, and that those engines are making 270 crank hp. You sure you're not talking about a Euro s50?
My engine is an OBD1 s52, race built and tuned by Turner motorsport. I'm making around @282rwhp right now, and that's with $eriou$ work. I've got dyno sheets to prove it, and I will tomorrow, as soon as I root through my boxes from my move, and toss it on the scanner. I'd love to see your dyno sheet for your car, as I'm sure lots of other e30s5X guys would as well.
By the way, the shorty headers from Turner are worth the cost.

depends on the driver also. i raced an e46 m3 cabby driven by some 18yo lookin kid, in my old 325i 4dr, beat him by 1/2 car length. he had no idea when to shift, sounded like he was riding the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd... sure i broke both my motor mounts, but i won...LOL.IG: @Baye30
FRONT VALENCE IS ZENDER!!! STOP FILLING MY PM BOX PPL!!!

As far as hp claims that i mentioned those are numbers that i have read about or told were true....
I dont care about flaming i did it for a real world comparison not a track comparison. I dont even have any suspension work done and im on stock basketweaves, i couldnt even autocross the car if i wanted cause it would be worthless.
