No stock e36 M3 is going to make 270hp, unless it's a poorly tuned, worn-down, tired euro s50. The guy most likely has mods done to it that he has no idea about (or maybe he knows, and is trying to stroke his internet ego).

I also have a very very hard time believing any US s50/2 is making 270 stock.

What's so good about that TMS shorty headers? Wouldn't you rather have long tubes?

I believe Stu has atleast one experience with an E46 M3...one experience in particular @ MSC's Turkey Tech. Maybe he'd shed some light on this 'comparo'

I don't know what's so good about them compared to long tube headers, but I made 9 or 10hp and about 13-15lb/ft. Maybe long tubes would have been better, but the car was at Turner for intake/exhaust work, and I had them make the exhaust with 'their' product. Besides, they look pretty.

you're right. i have been observing this thread for some time now and refrained from getting involved, but i figured i'd chime in now.

the guy who posted his dyno in post #6 of that thread got results from a dyno that typically reads about +15. how do i know? look at my reply in post #9 ( http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showth...=1#post5546080 )

that is what a stock s52 looks like on a typical dyno. you're still asking yourself how i know, right?

            check this vid out: http://raptor.nauticaltech.com/~jwor...ammad.mike.mpg

after the Z races the Porsche the guy who made the #6 post and i race (we're friends). although it says i was modified, we later found out i was putting down the same numbers as stock due to 'homemade' mods that were hurting performance ( i have dyno graphs to prove that from the same dyno ).

as you can see i am actually ahead for both races, further proving that the dyno he went to reads about +15.

if that isn't proof enough, i went to that same higher reading dyno with my current mods and pulled 256rwhp...that is pretty unheard of without cams or a lot more mods than what i have. also this is all with an s52 which will inherently make more power than an s50.

as for the original race, i just wish you lived closer because i'd love to have a run. i have run against an e36 325 with an s52 swap with similar mods as me and he pulled about a car on me, which could have been due to having 10psi and 20psi in my rear tires but either way, that's how it turned out. with a little more weight reduction and more exhaust mods i should be right there with him. any idea how much your car weighs with the s50 in it?

I have also raced an e46 M3 SMG and had (from what i can tell) similar results to the e36 you speak of in the original post. video from that can be seen here: ( http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525521 )

either way, good race. if you're ever in the socal area send me a pm

I have an s52 in my e30 that is pretty heavily (almost race prepped) modified. I am not 100% positive on the weight change, but I would guess it can't be all that much. Maybe 60-80lbs (don't quote me).....? I live in Upstate NY, and don't usually street race, as it's not in my nature. But on track is a completely different story. I have numerous vids of track time at The Glen, Summit Point, and Nelson Ledges, and I can tell you that not much gets by. Almost nothing in fact, but race-prepped, highly modified cars.

i'm much more of a track person too (i've got videos as well). i'm used to passing up modded e46 M3s on the track with ease with my stock suspension with 80k miles on it. but that's because i can outdrive them mostly. according to the scale at LA County Raceway my car weighs 2950lbs without me in it and a little under a 1/4 tank of gas. only weight reduction done is in the trunk everything else is intact.

are you able to pull away from most cars in the straights? any examples? i assume your car isn't streetable?

i've got a friend who is working on an e30 track car and i keep saying that if he threw in an s52 and full suspension (he just bought tc kline double adjustable coilovers) he would be a force to be reckoned with...all for under $10k. hell, under $7k if you really tried.

not many N/A cars you can say the same for.

The car is barely streetable, albeit being mostly illegal in nearly every respect. I can pull on almost every car on the straights. e36 M3's, e46 M3's, and e39 M5's are no problem. I've even outpulled a V8 Lotus, and a Porsche 911 Turbo GT1 at The Glen last summer. I've got vids, but nothing that is well put-together to watch. Mostly vids that are 30 minutes in length and are of me passing everyone in everything. Not very exciting, really. If somebody can host and receive a 650mb movie, I'd be more than happy to email them a copy of it for viewing. I'm not well versed in hosting or resizing/clipping movies.

I do know what you mean about the alure of a very powerful N/A car though.

                    s50

i am thinking about doing a s50 swap somewhere in the near future, and am wondering how easy this swap is. Is it just drop and mount? or do i have to fab mounts and hack the firewall for this?

Yes it's drop and mount, no cutting and welding of the original car's body is required. Please read the stickied thread at the top. It could save you a lot of grief. Welcome to the boards.
