    M50a???? should I do it??

I was planning on eventually stroking my m20, but my friend now has a non-vanos M50a...He says it has a hotter cam becasue of the non-vanos...Good choice for a swap?
How much more does it wieght than an M20?

    thanks

Non-VANOS is nice because the cams are 240/240 instead of 228/228. It also has valve stems thicker by 1mm (6 vs 7), dual-valve springs (turn it 7k w/o problems), and you don't have to worry about the damn VANOS unit kicking the bucket down the road.
        AFAIK, the fastest E36 325 ever road tested was a '92 325is in C&D, they got 6.4s to 60.

What the hell is an "a".

I've seen cars labeled as 325iA's but never an M50.

Does it come with an auto tranny and that is how the seller is identifying it?
If the price is right I'd take it, think about it you are getting the correct oil pan, ~$200+. Then after you get E36 engine mount arms you are well on your way. It's about 50/60 lbs heavier. I think it's worth it, I love mine, but I came from an ETA, not an I. If your E30 is your dd, you may want to think about getting a rolling shell, so then you don't have down time.

Good, I like working on my car but not when I can't get around.

Like Stu said the non-vanos has some choice internals. They make about the same power though. Mine is vanos, pretty stock except exhuast/intake/injectors. Nothing fancy, but I'll worry about making a scary 24v car later. For $400 it's a good deal, just check it out. You can re-use your radiator fwiw.

Yea, like Devon said, your car has some nice parts that swap right over. Radiator, overflow tank, trans, DS, rearend. You could go to a 4.10 for a real screamer, I think Dan Gillian has that setup.
