2.5 non-vanos is my idea of a perfect swap, although coming from an m20 you might not get as big of a performance boost as us lowly four pot guys

Yep, you got there a M50A, which was a specially hopped up version from BMW's Autosport division. Autosport was basically just like their Motorsport (///M) division, except they focused on mostly passenger car applications.

Later, the Motorsport division took over these responsibilities for the E36 and later models. I believe the M50A had a higher flowing oil pump, a pan baffle and a 256 intake cam.

No. There is no M50A, the money under your pillow was left by your parents, not the tooth fairy, and there is no red-suited fat guy that crawls down your chimney on Dec. 25th.

If anything like NC, it gets damn hot in Louisville...but if you don't mind ditching the a/c and sweating it out (like I did), that 45 pounds comes right off the front end.

Keep the a/c and loose the weight around your waist...

Weight shaving is an all or nothing kinda thing. Remove all the extra or leave it alone... Except simple stuff like removing the balast in your trunk floor... small things like remove the washer fluid bottle, and tiny pump... electric antenna, and maybe some other things.

I ride road bikes and the biggest myth is that the lighter bike is always better, it really makes no difference if you have more horsepower!

I left the A/C in my car when I did the swap. I'm glad I did too. It gets hot here in Dallas and muggy and gross down in Houston.

just talked to the guy, he said it from a 92 325i, not a 5 series...does that make a difference with parts I can use off the E36...??

                      It's sort of a wash.

With the E36, you get a harness that is better suited for the swap because you can place the ECU in the same place, if I recall correctly, and you get the correct engine mount arms. This will run around $120 - 150 if you buy on the used market.

You will need an E34 M50 oil pan, dipstick, and oil sump pickup tube, which is hard to come by sometimes, but other times is really easy to source. This varies between $150 - 225 on the used market.

Just wondering, don't mean to thread jack, but how was installing the A/C. I've heard you need a line off of a 318 but never heard anyone get specific about switching those and what parts are needed and from where.
                            Thanks
