    A couple m52 obd1 swap questions

first off i have been researching this for months now and i have come
across some info but not anything clear.

m50 has two temp sensors and then one water outlet behind them
m52 has one sensor and the same water outlet.
can i use the m52 sensor for the e30 by wiring it into a obd1 harness?
do i need the water outlet? can i just remove that and use the hole for
a second temp sensor? which part numbers will i need?

I am removing the CCV system. can i just route the hose that comes
off the valve cover back into my intake boot? or maybe cap it off??

keeping the g260 and the m20 clutch. engine is single vanos m52
will have chip, exhaust and KA intake. new stock clutch good enough?
I will DD the car plus maybe 1-2 Autox..... no drifting.

is using the e34 mount arms with e34 mounts any better than e36 arms
    plus e28 mounts?

obd1 O2 sensor need to be placed in a crossover/y-pipe?

Why go through the hassle of converting to obd1?
Go obd2 and flash out the bits you don't need.
Much simpler and cheaper than swapping out sensors and what not.

If you ever have any issues, you will regret removing OBD2. OBD1 is dumber than a scak of rocks when it comes to diagnosis of issues.

+1 for staying OBD2. It's not 2004 anymore, we can come out of the cave now.

          This.
OBD2 is 'smarter' and much easier to troubleshoot, just plug in a scan tool and get all the diagnostic info you could ever want. Why would you want your computer to be dumber than a sack of rocks?

Also real time data logging is neat :)

Hrm...... I get four replies and no answers

I have only ever owned obd0 cars(aka before there was a universal spec) never had trouble with
diagnosing them but that isn't really my reasoning.

Getting good tune on obd2=300$ or more
Getting a custom tune on obd1=70$ that I can then tweak for free

Predone tunes that I could look at to judge where I need timing and fuel to be for obd2
Don't exist where I can see them now

Even after much research into self tuning obd2 there are no guides to show you the way
Just people saying "oh I will tune it for you. For lots of $$$"

              anyone?

at least someone with a clear answer to my misgivings on running obd2?

how about this one. can i replace the gasket around the vanos without the
              special tools?

You can flash out things like ews easily enough on your own, there is a ton of info out there including in my project thread.
If you want to tune the ecu on your own, presumably you know enough to figure it out without blowing up your car. If not it makes sense to pay someone else to do it. Nobody is going to tune your ecu for free.

328ijunkie will be tuning my ecu when I get to that point, and my ecu has already been flashed to get rid of ews.

yeah i want the ability to custom tune my ecu.

I plan on getting a tune done for my mods to start then later
add a wideband and tuning the fuel maps myself to get it
                  pretty much perfect.

there are a few xdf files already made for 413 ecus and tunerpro
                  is fairly straight forward.

if i could find a reliable MS41.1 xdf made for a m52 that doesnt
require you to redo checksums then maybe.

also anybody know of someone that tunes obd2 ecus well for under
200$ then i may still decide to go obd2 since obd1 harness and
knock sensors cost nearly that much already

Exactly, use the money saved on converting to buy a tune.
There is an excellent .xml for romraider floating around on that forum.
Also if you don't mind paying a few bucks the chipster.no software automatically fixes your checksum when flashing. It can also upgrade an ms41.1 ecu to ms41.2.

Yeah, just use romraider and the chipster MS41 flash tool ($30ish, but it works pretty much flawlessly and autocorrects checksums) If you wire up an OBD2 port in car, you can just use a $20 ebay INPA cable to read/flash, otherwise you'll need an ADS to OBD2 adapter (aka "BMW 20 pin to obd2")

Added benefit of that is that you can install INPA and use that for codes/viewing live sensor & ECU data for diagnostics.

I have a different question now.
i decided to use this thread instead of starting a new one

                          i have a m52b28 engine. can i use a b23 engine harness
for a obd2 swap? also can i use the computer if i get it reflashed?
