Please f**k my brain with knowledge.

Okay I have a m52 single vamos block. I want to know if it is possible to use a m50 cylinder head on a m52 vamos block. Now if I understand correctly the only difference between the m52 block and m50 is the cylinder wall sleeves. So can you bolt s52/s50 crankshaft, rods, pistons. In a m52 vamos black with m50 head.

I'm just guessing your autocorrect is changing Vanos to vamos. Anyways I'm pretty sure a M50 vanos head bolts right onto a M52 block, but you have to remember the M50 is OBD1 while the M52 is OBD2 do if you go M50 head you have to convert to OBD1

Yeah that was autocorrect yes I am aware I have to convert to obd1. I have a wiring harness from a od1 m52 NV block and head. Would it be worth just to use the m52 NV head rather the m50. But what I under stand is you can not do the s50/s52 cam swap In the m52nv head.
      Thank you for your response.

You wouldnt necessarily have to convert it to OBD1. the only difference that matters here is the number of sensor holes. plug the unused one in the m50 head. Also the m52 was never offered as non-vanos.

I think you need to hit up wikipedia and look at the various revisions of these engines. You are mixing multiple terms up that do not go together.

Yeah you're getting a lot of things mixed up and jumbled around. I'd take a set back and do a little more research. Also when it comes to m50/m52 swaps I'd just pick up a e34 parts car and get the whole emgine. They're too cheap not too.

Then keep it OBD2 and just swap that, no reason to be swapping the heads around.

You don't have to convert to obd1 OR plug any holes.
The extra hole in question can be used for the e30 cluster temp sensor.

The primary difference between heads are the valve springs and lifters.
If you plan on running anything but the stock m50 cams you will want to change them and get m52/s52 lifters.

And no, you can't just pop s52 rotating parts into an m52 block, for one the bores are different.

I know you need to bore open. This is a high miles block with rod bearing out of spec. So it is due for a rebuild if I takin her apart I am will to bore open I have done a decent amount of reading this just not many thread with clear answers on what you can and can not do. I am appreciated that you are fucking my brain with knowledge. this is my first bmw. Not my first motor swap. So I'm not completely in the dark.
