Swapping from OBD2 Valvecover to OBD1

Im about ready to do this, but want to make sure I have covered all my bases to do it right the first time. This is more or less for anyone else thinking about doing this in the future and also a place for you to tell me what Im doing wrong...

Differences Ive noticed between the two Valvecover's

-OBD1 valvecover is Metal compared to the OBD2 which is Plastic.
-They have specific gaskets, so make sure you get the correct one
-The OBD1 uses nuts to hold down the coilpacks where the OBD2 uses bolts.
-They have specific routing for the corresponding wiring, not a big deal but just a heads up. I had to do a little trimming to use the OBD2 beauty cover with OBD1 wiring

I already have the correct OBD1 valvecover gasket.
I sourced enough nuts for the coilpacks to replace all the bolts that the OBD2 cover uses.

Should I use RTV on the gasket so it doesnt leak. This seems to be a common problem and Im pretty sure my OBD2 VCG had some type of sealant on it when I pulled it off when we did the VANOs a while ago. And now I have a small leak :hitler:

Will I encounter any surprises or am I good to go?

PCV?? I think they are different

I've been curious about this as well. I like the idea of powdercoating the VC for bling, also makes it easy to cut threads into the crank vent to put an AN fitting to run a nice PCV setup.

Any idea if I could run an OBD1 VC even though I'm OBD2? (would I just need OBD1 coil packs plus the coil pack harness?)

I used RTV on my VC (OBD1) and the oil pan. Just a thin smear of the oil resistant stuff.

only put RTV (actually better to use non-drying stuff like hondabond or hylomar) on the corners of the half-moons on the rear and the seams of the front cover up front, don't slather the thing in it. if it's a new gasket it won't leak

+1 hondabond is good stuff, so is hylomar. Much better than RTV

Im pretty sure the PCV is different also, I will try to fit the current PCV stuff before I attempt to swap everything over, but it would be nice if someone could confirm this
