OBD2 codes - do I need a BMW specific scanning software?

I am getting a misfire so I hooked up my VAGCOM cable I used for my old Audi, used the generic OBD2 scanning section in the software to get the following codes.

Would I get better results using BMW specific scanning software? If so where would I acquire it?

    TIA for any information.

do you have the option of typing in your vehicle specs?
I've used an app and Bluetooth scanner and that has worked for me.
but those codes sound about right, relating to your issue.
    start troubleshooting that misfire.
switch coils, check spark plugs, relays, etc.etc.

Unfortunately I do not have that option with the generic OBD2 interface I have.

I get basic real time readings, error codes and the ability to clear them which I have done.
Will start checking things out this week.

We use OBDFusion Iphone App for most quick diagnostics. It doesnt pull in all BMW codes (like the 1188 fuel trim code) but will steer you in the right direction.

INPA is free, and pretty easy to find/install via guides on various forums.

For the price there's nothing better, but a laptop+cable is much more cumbersome to carry around than an app on your phone, so you may not see the need for it.
