    S52 cluster question..

Hey guys, Im going to be swapping a s52 into a 85 325e (preface obviously). My cluster works great right now, but since its an eta, my tach only goes to 5000RPM.

Can I swap in a tach from a 325i and change the coding plug?

I believe on the preface eta swaps I have to run a wire to the back of the instrumental cluster for the tach.

Anyone have experience with a m/Sx swap into an eta?

Pretty much can I just swap the tach or do I have to get a 325i cluster?

I did an i swap into an 84 eta and I had to swap clusters due to the tach. Not sure if that helps, but you can get a good 325i cluster for pretty cheap

Doesn't really help. I know this is an option. but I have an extra tach laying around.

Really need to know if I can drop an "i" tach into an eta cluster and use a diff coding plug.

Depends on year. Early tach's leave the econo gauge in the cluster and just the tach comes out, the late ones are all one piece. Parts interchange from Motometer to VDO, but they have to match year. Some clusters didn't have any coding plug, but that doesn't matter much since you are going 6cyl to 6cyl.

Also, to get a tach signal to the cluster, open your glovebox/ECU cover and attach the black wire on the white connector to the tach output of the ECU right there on the main loom near the ECU connector.
