    My Engine Swap Thread: 1984 325e w/ S52

    Hello All:

I have a 1984 325E that I bought a few months ago and have been working on since. It's been a slow process to say the least, but it's coming along pretty good. I have been working on the suspension, cosmetics, and interior mainly, but now it's time to work on the drive train.

Today I bought an engine and other stuff from a 1999 M3 with 70k miles.

    S52 3.2
    ZF Transmission
    OBD1 harness
    OBD1 intake manifold
    e30 M3 driveshaft
    413 ECU
AA OBD1 S52 chip 'on the way'
    E32 Brake Booster
    E32 Master Cylinder

All of this was possible with Matt from this board and BF.C. He has been very helpful throughout the whole process. Plus, we are doing his M50 swap in my garage next month.

The swap will be documented here with pics as well. More updates to come...:p

Invested into the car, swap, or both?

This is gonna be the cleanest damn swap any of you have ever seen, mark my words.

details and pics of e32 booster and master cylinder please. Thought the common setup was e32 booster (same as IX), with the e34 M.C. and e32 remote reservoir. How does the e32 MC work in your 84, isn't it an ABS MC? How does it work with your non ABS chasis?

What's the difference between an ABS and non M/c? The one we pulled from the 7er looks exactly like the M5 version I bought brand new, and is the same piston size (25mm). As far as I know, the m/c you'd use is the same between ABS and non ABS e30s.

Edit: And using that ugly square remote res is dumb. Details of a GOOD way to do it will come when we get around to that part of the swap. All OE BMW parts, too.

Wow, you got a great deal on the swap parts!

I'd like to know the difference between the M5 and 7er 25mm booster as well. They have different part numbers, but they gotta be functionally equivalent. What are the sizes of the two ports where the brake hardlines hook up? Are they both 10mm?

There sure are a lot of M/S5x swaps going on this summer!

Non ABS MC's have 3 lines, ABS have 2. You can use a T for the 2 fronts to make an ABS MC work.
There are 2 different 7 series MC's the 750i is the 25mm one that works with the non IX style boosters. The 735i got a 25mm MC but it has the funky mounting that the IX booster uses.

Got a part number for the T fitting? 8-)

                        Edit: How about 34 32 6 755 557 and 34 34 1 111 435?

afaik all 25mm mc are the same... the only difference is that type of flange it has to mount to the booster... i believe all 25mm master cars have abs(this could be wrong) so you only need a T if yoru car doesnt
