    Quick M50 tensioner question

Am I missing anything here? It seems loose...

It's hydraulic. When it gets some oil pressure it'll pump right up.

so it's supposed to have that slop in it? I just want to double check. It just seems odd to have such a big tolerance between parts like that.

Oh, I dunno about that. I didn't wait for the pics to load. Did you check the Bentley?

Just looked through the Bentley, and I couldn't find any photos of the secondary tensioner torn apart. I bought this one from someone, and just want to make sure he sent me all of the parts.

A bit hard tell from the pictures, but those two parts shouldn't have play. It seems (by pictures) that there is a gap of 1-2mm there.

If you're building this motor, replace all of those parts.

Yes, there is a good amount of play. Those 3 pieces shown are all I was sent. Are these pieces that wear out?

Yep, they wear out. How does the chain slider look?

Edit: So wait, those pieces are new?

The slider portion looks to be in good condition. I bought them used...looks like I got screwed if I'm missing a piece. Those are the issues you run into I guess when you build an engine from scratch. Looks like I'll be buying a new one. :(

Here is a part number for one, 95 S50, 11311738700. I think they are relatively cheap.

speaking of "tension" i notice while i pulled off my oil pan that the chain for the oil pump has some play in it....does it get tense with the hydaulic adjusters or should i get a chain tensioner for it?

There is no tensioner for oil pump chain, but then again you just need the pump run with the engine and timing is not that important. Just make sure it's not loose enough to jump off. If you have a chance, then change chain and sprockets but i would not dismantle anything just to do it. Anyway it's a good to check the tension of oil pump sprocket nut !

I just installed one of these the other day. There seemed to be steel insert inside that alloy frame, where tensioner itself slides in&out. I don't know if it's possible to remove (&replace) it without breaking te part, though.
