So, tell me how you like your S50/S52 swap...

I'm thinking of taking on another project sometime soon and am really leaning towards going the S50 or S52 route with the regular minor bolt on mods. I know what's involved in the swap itself but what I really want to know is if you guys all feel it was worth it. Tell me your opinions on the swap and how happy or not happy you are with it. Anybody have any idea how it might compare to my turbo E30?

    Thanks guys.

Also, is the S52 even worth the trouble or is the S50 good enough?

You shouldn't do the swap if you don't plan on driving the car.

          Matt,

hit up iflytii on the "other" board.

He ditched his turbo for a manly S5x engine, I believe.

If you go s50 you wont end up on a flat bed.

you might want to pm blunt/steve petersen. he has had his swap for a couple of years now and has driven it everywhere in all sorts of conditions. he can give you all the feedback you need.
that said, one ride and drive in his car convinced me to do my swap. that was all it took. truly amazing.

i think it's totally worth, and I loved my old m20.

The s50 is great. More power and gets better gas mileage than the m20.

With the dropping prices of s50s, it makes sense. Equate went with the s52, and he said he would go s50 if he had to do it again.

my car has a stock s50, getrag 260 and 3.73 and i just love it. it pulls really strong all the way, i can't get enough of the torque. i enjoy the car more since the suspension install. i'm sure it just gets better as i keep adding the mods.

BUT the experience is different from a turbo car. i prefer NA over the high maintenance turbo car

I totally love it. The engine is all-around better in every way. Driveability is fantastic, cold starts are great, super smooth from idle to redline, and you can cruise around at 1200 rpms with plenty of torque. I wouldn't give up my s50'd e30 for any other BMW, except for MAYBE an S54 M-Coupe.
