M50 Rebuild: Rod bearings - how do they look?

I'm rebuilding a ~190K M50 w/ VANOS, so far everything looks pretty good - but up until now the most involved thing I've done with my car is a Z3 rack swap. Cylinders all still have cross hatching but I don't really have anything to compare to what I'm seeing. Also, these rod bearings all look shot. Crank looks fine as far as I can tell, though. Anyone want to weigh in?

Also I'm wondering if people usually go with a slight hone and new piston rings. I can't really fit new pistons into the budget so being able to hone and throw new rings on is ideal. Is this usually what ends up happening? To my understanding it basically all comes down to what the machine shop ends up finding as far as wear/roundness of the cylinder walls.

Thanks for reading, here's the photos:

I should probably clarify that I'll be replacing the bearings regardless but I was looking for some insight as to whether or not it could mean that something is wrong with the pistons or crank.

The crosshatchng looks ok to me. Those bearings are certainly in need of replacment. I'd think that having a machine shop check the crank would be a good idea. It shouldn't take long and would be worth it for some piece of mind.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to bring in the crank as well. Thanks

is that cylinder wall discoloration or shadows? Can you feel anything with your fingernail...ridges, pits, scuffs?

Some of the patterns could suggest it needs a torque plate hone if you want a performance build, the cross hatch looks more worn in some patches

I can't quite tell - I'm away from the engine for another 5 days but I can't imagine that those are camera artifacts. I'm not really sure why I didn't notice them before. Assuming that is actual wear and not some weird camera reflection deal, what could it mean?

Are you talking about the same high/low wear pattern? I'm more rebuilding it for reliability, no turbo or anything more than maybe S50 cams in the future.
