    vanos and non-vanos cam trays

Hi does any one know the details about m50nv, m05v and m52 cam trays?

i heard some models have 35mm buckets and some models have 33mm buckets what models have what and are the trays interchangeable??

this all becomes relevant when fitting big race profile cams

you should be able to find everything via search :p

OBD1 cams can go in OBD1/OBD2 trays

OBD2 cams can only go in OBD2 trays

US S50 cam trays are weird and can take OBD2 cams despite being OBD1

only NV motors got 35mm lifters

If no one posts up here before the January 2nd, I have a set of 1993 M50 VANOS trays sitting on my workbench at home I can pull measurements off of.

Worth noting that the 1995 M50 VANOS trays and lifters are different than the 1993 parts - 1995 got a better cam thrust bearing design, better oil feed passage on the #1 journal, lifters have a bit more internal volume, and oil feed hole in the lifter was redesigned. My 1995 cams also appear to be a higher quality casting than the 1993s, purely based on surface finish of the unground areas though.

The trays are interchangeable on the heads, but the cam has to match the tray, or you won't get full contact between the buckets and lobes, or can hang valves open. Early m50's (all) have 35mm, not sure when they changed exactly without a trip to realoem.com, but the s50 for sure had 33mm, and m52 (obd2) cars all have 33mm. Unsure if there was a difference between Euro and US markets.

Which cams are you going to run? I run 286/272 on 33 mm lifters with no problems.
