    M50 head coolant passages

Cleaning up my m50 head to see if it can be used , and came across an oddity while doing so :

It looks blocked , and I thought it was just some solid grease chunks but its metal .

Every cylinder valve port except number 2 has this weird block on the left cooling pssage ? Anybody know what this is ? / could this head still be usable with or without work?

I'm going to recycle this to scrap and get another head.

Wait for someone else to chime in first lol that was just my 2 cents.. and if it is weld it can be drilled/machined out most likely. If you are still going to scrap it hang it in the man cave [emoji14]

That's completely normal. Some heads are missing coolant passages there on the earlier models. That corrosion you're seeing is just electrolysis eating at the head. Not a big deal. You can either drill the holes open (might still need welding though), or grind the contaminants out and have it welded.
Either way, it's still a good core if you purchase a rebuild head.

Yep, he is correct. The gasket has extra holes that don't isolate the head from the block and corrosion forms there. Just leave it alone. When the shop skims the head, most or all of that will go away. Not to mention, the new gasket will cause the same condition to happen again.
