    Oil temperature sender on s50

    Hey all,

I have a e30 m3 cluster and a 95 s50 engine. I'm interested in connecting an oil temperature sender so the oil temperature gauge will work on my cluster. I bought a oil temperature sender for e30 m3. Any suggestions where to install it?

Some people say at the oil drain plug. I don't really like that idea (but am open to it) since the wire might get caught on some brush and I would have to remeve it everytime I do my oil.

The other idea I have is to tee it off the oil pressure sender. However, I have yet to find meteric tee adapters.

    Any ideas?

    Tom

They make the oil filter caps that are tapped for sensors already. That would seem like the easiest place. I think Turner had some spendy ones, but I have seen them a few places.

Turner has a fitting that goes where the oil level sensor would be on the 5er oil pan. Put it there.

I looked through Turner's website and couldn't find either of the parts mentioned. Anyone know the part number or name?

Any one know which cluster wire needs to be tapped?

On an m3 cluster none. There is a three prong plug directly on the back of the tacho, its not exposed on 325 clusters, just the m3 one.

I have the linked oilpan flange - $75 shipped

As above, new in package from Turner. I think you get a better read on temp at the pan, but I chose to run my oil level sender and to machine a part to go up by the oil filter (1 off part).

LMK if you want it, PM's checked every other day.

Yeah, but are you using a 3 series oil pan, or a 5 series pan like the one in the list of applications?

Can you give some details on the part you made? I think I'll skip dropping $75 on Turner's machined piece. I could make one of thoes myself and I'd also like to keep the oil level sender.
