    S52 and flywheel w/g260. What starter?

    So I was able to get my swap fired up and all seems well except for an occasional starter miss. I’m running an S52 stock dual mass with a G260 transmission. The starter was from the S 52. Nine times out of 10 it starts without issue. The 10th time I get some weird grinding noise. If I rotate the crank a little bit and try to restart it works. It’s almost like the flywheel had a couple bad teeth but the flywheel was new. I’m confused.

    Any advice appreciated

    transmission doesn't care.

    starter should match flywheel. m20 flywheel -> m20 starter. s5x flywheel -> s5x starter.

    they have slightly different profiles.

      Hmm that’s what I thought. I can’t understand why moving the crank would allow it to hook up?

          Interesting. I didn't realize there were two thicknesses on the bell housing. I would think if that were the cause it would happen every start. Possible the starter was getting hung up on its own shaft making an ugly sound but i can't figure why turing the crank would help.

            Your starter just has sticky solenoid and if the flywheel is at wrong posttion the starter gears don't engage. And grind agaimst flywheel gears. Replace starter.

              Cool, I am hoping that is the case too. Have a used one on the way to test it out. $12 eBay shipped to me. Not sure how they are making money on that one. Will report back.
