It looks like they are resting on eachother, only bad things can happen with that setup.

it's just the angle of the picture, a local bmw mechanic uses stock boosters for the m5x swaps. He just shaves the fins on the manifolds and does something else which i'm not sure of, no clearance issues. Plus the engine moves away from the booster anyway.

In transitions the manifold will go both ways. Tony, any more info on what your friend does? Pictures?

Mot knows more about it than i do, I'll get him to chime in. I think that's what they're going to his car.

yes get more details on it......if its not too much work and less hassle and cost than a booster i would try it out

Its no too hard to get a stock boooster to work with the swap .

Friend of mine just shaved the last couple of fins, which is always good even with a E21 booster, and shimmed up the drivers side motor mount with a washer or two .

Definitely NOT ideal but it does get the job done if you are a cheap and/or retarded bastard .

The booster can be shimmed so that it leans to drivers side.

Trimming fins and shimming stock booster will create enougn room, depending of course of engine mounts, and stifnes of rubbers.

I'm using a e21 booster and havn't shaved any of my fins and mines still quite close. Like about 10-15mm gap.

I've been trying to find why the hell my S50 swapped e30 is so damn loud. It is especially loud when the windows are rolled up (enclosed), sounds like the engine transmits its noises directly to the body making a mix of bassy humm/buzz/whine/grunt fill up the cab.
I wonder if the fact that the manifold is like 1mm away from the IX booster has anything to do with it. I put a slab of rubber between them for now (to dampend possible vibrations transmitted on contact)
So what should be a good clearence between those? 5mm? 10mm?

Also i noticed that there almost no clearence between the rear of valvecover and the rear of the engine compartment
I had the swap performed by a good mechanic, so i dont really have hands-on experience.
What did you guys do to add clearence at the rear?

                      Thanks

i have a decent amount of space between the firewall and the engine about 1.5 to 2 inches. Well good to me anyway

The manifold also expands esp. if you have a hot cam.
You can use a stock booster if you move the booster location, or space the shit out of the engine. You can tell how the engine is spaced if you can get a shot of the TPS connector in relation to the master cylinder reservoir.
If you don't run any spacers, it's a good idea to check for clearances between the e21 booster.
If you use a stock booster, you will not enjoy the fun of having to space the driver's side of the engine up and the complications that ensues (just wait till he puts e36 downpipes on).

providing i have custom exhaust (single 2.5" pipe), what other negatives will i experience if i tilt the engine even further? right now i have IX booster 1mm away from shaved mani. I used both mounts from e28m5 (both pass side, cylindrical black rubber) and my mechanic put like a 5mm spacer on drivers side.
I just talked to him and he suggested trying a e36 mount as a passenger side mount to lower it a bit more.
Also i use ZF tranny with UUC red rubber mounts with cup reinforcements. I think those mounts are a bit taller than needed, what do you guys think? How do i know for sure?
I guess i can lower the tranny braket by putting spacers on the bolts that hold the braket.

                            Cheers
