    oil level sender delete

I'm currently doing an oil change and freshening up some gaskets and realized that I have the e34 oil level sender taking up space in my oil sump. My car doesn't have an idiot oil level light (318is), so I'm considering taking a cutting wheel to the sender and slightly increasing the capacity of the sump. Has anyone else done this? I'm concerned that I might create another leak by chopping off the sender.

I **think** it's as easy to swap overhead consoles as to cut that piece. At least if you left the sender wiring intact. Or get the blockoff plate that lets you run temp sender. Perfect location.

Cutting that sender would only get you a 1/2 cup oil more - why bother?

My engine oil light came on the other day, turns out I was over a quart low on oil. Oops I guess I forgot to check it. :-)

It's good to have it there just in case. Specially if you track or autocross the car.

as mentioned above, I don't have a full check panel.

I guess I'll keep it in place until I can delete it the correct way.

btw Trent: I had NO cam sensor gasket, and the hex bolt holding it in was finger tight! If that's my leak, I owe you beer for your troubles

I don't disagree at all. I just left it as I could use it and simply pop a few new holes in the pan, one to drive the factory M3 oil temp sender, and one for the VDO redundant in my center console. I just like to use all the factory stuff I incorperate, and add whatever else I like too.

You saw my skidplate based on your design, all I did was backweld some 1/2" alum where I wanted to run senders, pop a couple holes and thread it. Took 10 mins tops. I'll post a pic when my ghay Photobucket lets me.

But for those who pay for stuff to get welded, my approach would be a few bucks.

PLease. I check after every session. The oil light doesn't tell you if there is metal in your oil.
