get the e46 version on the 6 speed.... it has updated syncros and shifts smoother... plus you can find them for $1500 miles with very low miles(like 10k). the only reason to limit yourself to the e36 6speed is if you HAVE to have a euro only transmission...

This transmission is not heavy... full with fluid i could easily pick it up and walk it around the garage

Thanks for the heads up on the E46 version, it looks like the Gear Ratios are the same, anyone know any other significant differences? I really just want to make sure I have an appropriately geared tranny that shifts well and can handle the power. After that, the lighter the better. So, it doesn't really matter if it's Euro or not to me.

I think the S50/S54 Blocks are the same, does that mean the E46 Bellhousing would work fine too?

      Thanks again.

the e36 and e46 boxes have no differences other than the miba syncros and a slightly different input shaft...

it bolts up to us m50 family engines... only drawbacks... you need to use:
        e46m3 flywheel and clutch
E36 6-speed shifter assembly(every part of it except the e30 rear mount)
        e36 325i slave cylinder
custom trans crossmember(same one you would need for any 6 speed)
custom drive shaft (138cm long from trans flange to diff flange)

then your good to roll with a 6-speed e30
